4 PREZ

I've always wanted a personalized license plate. And in 8 to 12 weeks, I will have one.

After trying many, many combinations of letters and numbers, most of which were already taken or wouldn't make enough sense, I settled on "4 PREZ." It has a double meaning, after all - the car is for me, and also I'll be running for President in the future. I chose the license plate type that has the palm trees and beach background, an echo of my Southern California roots.

And yes, I'm still fasting. Unlike the 30 day novel fiasco, I'm sticking with this fasting business so far. Almost to the halfway point, and I'm dreaming about Tony Robbins. What special visions will tomorrow hold?

Fasting

So Mark and I had this crazy idea that we would finish off "our year" with a bang by fasting for 3 days. The fasting began today at 12:30 after a big, big last meal at the Elephant Bar in Irvine. Mark with his jambalaya and I with my fajitas relished each bite, knowing that it would be our last for a full 72 hours.

So now I wait. With only the delicious, satisfying taste of water to comfort me, I cautiously approach the next 60 or so hours. I, a man who loves to eat and can eat an awful lot, will fast. Ironically, the time will pass slowly.

I've set up a separate blog to chronicle our fasting adventures. You can access it here.

Mark and I will post there, when the need seems dire, our reflections, general thoughts, and possibly hallucinations as we go through this foodless journey together to close out 2004, aka "our year."

(6 x 5) -1

Yes, today I turn 29. Tonight, to be precise, at 11:57, I will have completed 29 years on this earth. Quite amazing.

Big ideas

So I'm more of a "big idea" kind of guy. I don't do real well with details sometimes. For example, writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days is a great idea. Making the time to write 1,667 words per night is an important detail to overlook.

In my defense, November is a particularly difficult month for me to write a novel in. It includes the first report cards of the year as well as parent-teacher conferences. The time it takes to prepare for these, and all the assessments involved, is nothing to sneeze at. Which also was a problem - all but maybe 5 of the 30 days which hath November I was in some state of sickness.

November is also famous for hosting the holiday of Thanksgiving. How was mine? Take a look at the photos and see for yourself! You can see them here.

Below is a teaser image from the Thanksgiving photo page. Any ideas what would be a good caption for it? Post your caption ideas!
